The verdict: The only BTU number that matters is the SACC, and it's usually half the marketing figure. If a unit claims 12,000 BTU, plan for 6,000 to 7,000 BTU of actual cooling. That's the difference between a bedroom that hits 72 and a bedroom that sits at 80 while the compressor screams.
